In 2010 EPA set limits on the amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment that can enter the Chesapeake Bay and required jurisdictions within the watershed to develop Watershed Implementation Plans (WIP’s). The final implementation plan is 2025. The bay watershed jurisdictions focuses attention on the following sectors to accomplish this: Urban; Septic System; Wastewater Treatment Plants; and Agricultural. The Engineering Division is responsible for administering the County’s WIP program which includes coordinating with our WIP partners (CWP, WET, CBT, FON and WRC). As a supplement to County funds, grants from state and non-profit organizations are obtained to assist with reducing nutrients and sediments from reaching our local waterways.
