TRAINING DIVISION

The Maryland Police Training Commission mandates that each sworn officer receive a minimum of 18 hours of approved "In-Service Training" annually. In addition, Federal and State laws mandate additional training for each officer. The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office recognizes that to maintain the level of knowledge and professionalism that the citizens of Wicomico County expect, the minimum amount of training mandated by the Maryland Police Training Commission is inadequate. This year each deputy exceeded the minimum 18 hours of "In Service Training" for an average of 34 hours of training. The total hours of training for sworn personnel for the year equaled over 300 days. This figure also includes training for sworn auxiliary deputies.

Additionally, OSHA/MOSHA requires that each sworn deputy receive classroom training and the offering of the vaccine for Hepatitis B.
