COURT SECURITY DIVISION

The Court Security Division is composed of sixteen (16) members: One Sergeant, eight Deputy First Class, one part-time sworn Auxiliary Deputy, and six civilians.

The Circuit Court Unit is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the judicial process by providing a safe environment within the Circuit Court facility and the surrounding grounds. This unit is also responsible for maintaining the security of all prisoners while they are being housed within, or transported to and from, the Circuit Court facility.

The District Court Unit of Court Security is responsible only for the custody of Wicomico County prisoners awaiting trial, and those prisoners generated by the District Court bound for Wicomico County Department of Corrections.

Magnetometer screening of persons attending Circuit Court continue to prove its effectiveness.  In 2004, 6871 items were removed from individuals attending Circuit Court trials.
