SOLID WASTE PERMITS

For Household Trash Only !!!

 

Permits are effective:

From - July 1, 2008

To - June 30, 2009

 

 

DO I HAVE TO GET A PERMIT?

NO.  You have the option of coming to the landfill located on Brick Kiln Road and using our scale facility.  You weigh in and weigh out and pay approximately $0.03 per lb. for what you discarded.

 

HOW DO I GET A PERMIT?

There are 2 ways to get a Permit!

(1)    In person by SHOWING “your” registration card(s) to the seller.  If you do not show your registration card(s), a permit will not be issued.  Permits may be purchased at    the following locations:

 

A.       Newland Park Landfill

* Landfill Office on Brick Kiln Road will be open on Saturdays from 8am to 12noon for the months of June & July ONLY.

 

B.       Department of Public Works

Permits are effective from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009 for a cost of $55.00    Permits will be pro-rated in January 2009, for a fee of $30.00

 

(2)    By Mail, we need a copy or copies of the vehicle registration card(s), along with the application.  If no copies are received, the permit will NOT be mailed to you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET A PERMIT?

You need to bring the registration card for the vehicle(s) you want a permit for. You are allowed two (2) permits per household as long as the two registration cards have the same address.  The fee for both permits is $55.00.  If you live in another County or State and are within 2 miles of a Transfer Station, the fee will be $165.00.

   Permits will be pro-rated in January 2009, for a fee of $30.00.

 

REPLACEMENT PERMITS

If a vehicle with a permit is sold or disposed of, or needs a windshield replaced, The permit must be removed.  Return it to the Wicomico County Solid Waste Office, at which time you will receive a replacement permit at no additional cost.

IT WILL COME OFF (EVEN IF IT IS IN PIECES).  WE NEED IT TO BE RETURNED.

NO PERMIT RETURNED — NO REPLACEMENT.

 

WHAT THIS PERMIT DOES NOT COVER

1.  Roofing shingles and drywall.

2.  Treated lumber and wood.

3.  Pallets at Transfer Stations.

4.  Construction and renovation materials.

5.  Tree stumps and any tree part over 16 inches in diameter and 10 feet in length.

6.  Appliances containing FREON have a fee of $20.00 per unit.  All freon units must come to the

Landfill on Brick Kiln Road.

7.   Tires ($2.00 off rims / $5.00 on rims per tire up to 4) discarded at Landfill on Brick Kiln

Road only.  (NO Oversized Tires).

8.  Asbestos ($165.00/ton -- call Landfill office for details -- 410-548-4935).

THE ITEMS LISTED ABOVE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AT ANY TRANSFER STATION.  THEY MUST COME TO THE LANDFILL ON BRICK KILN ROAD, GO ACROSS THE SCALES AND BE PAID FOR BY WEIGHT.  The fee is based on $55.00 per ton ($0.03 per lb.).  The hours for the scales are: 7:00am to 4:00pm - Monday thru Saturday.

 

GENERAL RULES

Once the permit(s) are purchased, they are your responsibility.  If they are lost or stolen, Wicomico County will not be held liable.  You would need to purchase new permits at the same price of $55.00.

The permit MUST BE ATTACHED to your windshield.  It can be placed on either side of the windshield in the lower corner or on the windshield behind the rear view mirror (as long as it is not in a shaded area).  If the permit is not attached to the windshield, you will NOT be allowed to unload.

The permit is registered to a certain vehicle and the permit number must match that vehicle.  They cannot be transferred from one vehicle to another.  The Tag Number from the registration card will be put on your permit.  We reserve the right to view all registration cards.

This permit is for household trash ONLY!  Permits found on improper vehicles, or being used to haul commercial trash, are subject to suspension and/or a fine of $100 to $1000. Commercial being any business; even a business at home such as chicken house, woodworking, farming, etc.
