Homeowners are permitted to do their own electrical work for the dwelling they reside in.  Otherwise, only Licensed Electricians may do electrical wiring in Wicomico County.  Public Works is involved with the: issuance of Electrical Permits, Electrical Licenses and the maintenance of all records for the Board of Electrical Examiners.  The Board of Electrical Examiners meets the first Wednesday of each month in Room 300 of the Government Office Building at 5:00pm.   To have items placed on the agenda, please call 410-548-4817.

Permit Fee   -  $20.00       Note:  Permits expire One Year after date of issuance
License Fee  -  $50.00 per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30  -  two year renewal)

Exams for electrical licenses are given the first Wednesday of each quarter (Jan., April, July & Oct.).  Application to take the exam must be submitted for Board approval, along with a $20.00 fee.  Once the application has been accepted, the applicant is permitted three (3) attempts to pass the test within one year from first test.  If the applicant does not pass the exam, then another application must be submitted to the Board.

This division is run from the revenues generated by the license & permit fees.  Only Cash, Check, or Money Order are acceptable methods of payment.

All electrical work performed in Wicomico County must be inspected before that work can be utilized.  There are 4 inspection agencies which are approved by the Board.

An inspection agency must be selected at the time the permit is obtained.
