  HOW DO I GET MORE INFORMATION ABOUT SERVICES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH?

HOW CAN I LEARN ABOUT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES?

  Call Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children to be added to the potential vendor list (410) 546-5400. The Partnership does not have a regular cycle of applications for funding. When State and Federal agencies make funds available locally, the Partnership shares those opportunities with local service providers and vendors through mailings, this web site and classified advertisements.

 

WHAT IS A LOCAL MANAGEMENT BOARD?

  A Local Management Board is responsible for strengthening families and community services through leadership, coordination, decision-making, administration and oversight of funded services, fiscal management of funds, planning, and public awareness activities. Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children is the Local Management Board for Wicomico County. WHAT ARE THE MARYLAND RESULTS FOR CHILD WELL-BEING?

  Maryland has eight results or goals for its children, families and/or communities. Each describes the general well-being of Maryland’s children and families in an area we know affects a child’s ability to grow up healthy and secure.

PROGRAM SERVICE QUESTIONS

  WHAT IS THE CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER?

  The Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center is a child-focused, facility-based program where investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse are coordinated. The Child Advocacy Center Advisory Board, made up of, Maryland State Police, Wicomico Sheriff’s Department and Salisbury Police Department law enforcement, Department of Social Services, Wicomico Partnership for Families and Children State’s Attorney’s Office, the Peninsula Regional Medical Center, and Life Crisis Center, provides advice for the development of the center, which is coordinated by Life Crisis Center, Inc. WHAT IS THE CITIZEN REVIEW PANEL?

  Seven Wicomico County citizen volunteers are appointed by Wicomico County Council to evaluate local agency child protection practices to ensure they are fulfilling their duties in accordance with child protection laws. The panel is subject to Ethics Law as set up by the State Ethics Commission, and is restricted from sharing case information. WHAT IS COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY?

  The Comprehensive Strategy for Balanced and Restorative Justice is a process for local communities to design and implement a plan to reduce juvenile violence and delinquency. Wicomico County’s Comprehensive Strategy plan, which guides the development of new services, Preserving Youth & Preventing Delinquency was published in July 1999 (see publications). The Youth Strategies 5 year Consolidated Grant will extend the impact of Wicomico County’s Comprehensive Strategy.

  WHAT IS THE NEIGHBORHOOD INITIATIVE?

  The Neighborhood Initiative is a pilot project designed to improve the well being of children and families by adding early childhood, youth, family, community development activities and services to the Westside Hot Spot crime control and prevention activities. This initiative offers an opportunity for on-going capacity building, training and technical assistance in key areas such as leadership development, community mobilization, program and service implementation.   Neighborhood Initiative updates will be provided at meetings of the Wicomico Revitalization Partnership on the second Tuesday of each month.

 

WHAT IS OPERATION WEED & SEED

  Operation Weed & Seed is a Federal Department of Justice Initiative to weed out crime and seed revitalization to our communities. Salisbury joins with communities around the country who have discovered the impact of neighborhood residents and law enforcement combining to strategically reshape community life. Grant funds support staff, a steering committee, law enforcement, and three safe havens: Westside, Camden, and Church Street neighborhoods.   WHAT IS SYSTEMATIC TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING?

  STEP or Systematic Training for Effective Parenting program is three courses developed by American Guidance Systems. These courses are geared toward parents of preschoolers, school age children, and teens. A typical STEP course meets in 7 weekly sessions of 2 hours or less. Wicomico Partnership has contracted Atlantic Child and Family Psychological Practice, Eastern Shore Psychological Service, Dr. Robert McBrien, and Kathryn Reading and Eileen Matlach to provide these classes. We are looking for organizations to host STEP classes. WHAT IS THE YOUTH STRATEGIES FIVE-YEAR CONSOLIDATED GRANT?

  The Consolidated Grant provides an opportunity for local jurisdictions, through their Local Management Boards, Prevention Coordinators, Safe and Drug Free Schools coordinators, Local Department of Juvenile Justice representative, Local Law Enforcement and Hot Spots Lead Coordinator(s) to jointly work with key stakeholders to assess community needs, develop a strategic plan and identify specific research-based proven or promising strategies to:
