RICHARD M. POLLITT,
JR. SWORN IN AS WICOMICO COUNTY’S FIRST ELECTED EXECUTIVE

Richard M. Pollitt Jr., was sworn-in at noon today as Wicomico County’s
first elected Executive. The inauguration took place in the Ceremonial Court
Room in the county’s old
courthouse. Mr. Pollitt’s father, the late Judge Richard M. Pollitt, Sr., once
presided in the same room when it was used to hear Circuit Court cases.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Pollitt said: “I’m
looking forward to getting to work right away establishing contacts with all
the various members of our community. We’ve been granted a tremendous
opportunity to make local government more efficient and responsive to our
citizens and I intend to make the most of it.”
Mr. Pollitt joins 5 other County
Executives in Maryland who share similar responsibilities
in governing as elected officials. Mr. Pollitt is now responsible for
managing 9 departments which supply
services to county citizens. The annual Wicomico County
budget is $126 million.
Prior to assuming the post of County
Executive, Mr. Pollitt served as
Manager of the City of Fruitland, MD
for 22 years.
The Pollitt family has a long history of public service on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
The late Judge Pollitt retired from the Maryland Court of Special Appeals. Mr.
Pollitt’s grandfather served three terms as Wicomico County Sheriff and a
great-grandfather served as an Orphan’s Court Judge in Somerset County.
Mr. Pollitt and his wife, the former Tracy Catlin, reside in
Allen, MD
with their two children. Nine generations of the Pollitt family have lived in
or around Allen.
