America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth is pleased to announce that Wicomico County and Salisbury have been named, for the second consecutive year, as a winner of a national competition to identify the 100 Best Communities for Young People.  In partnership with Capital One, the 100 Best competition honors communities – ranging from small towns to urban neighborhoods across America – for their commitment to provide healthy, safe and caring environments for young people.  Hundreds of communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands took part in the competition. Wicomico County and Salisbury were the only Maryland jurisdictions to be chosen this year.

“There are so many positive aspects of our community , it is truly encouraging to receive this recognition for the second year in a row. We have always said that Wicomico County and Salisbury are great places to raise a family. It’s gratifying that an organization with the national prestige of America’s Promise Alliance agrees so strongly with us,” said Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr.

“We are thrilled to be recognized for a second consecutive year as an outstanding community for young people,” said Salisbury Mayor Barrie Parsons Tilghman. “This confirms the dedication of a number of individuals and organizations to the importance of the next generation of citizens,” she added.
