Wicomico County maintains an active office of Emergency Management. The Emergency Management Coordinator, Deputy Director of Emergency Services, Emergency Management Technician and Emergency Management Planner assist the Director in staffing the office.
The office is responsible for updating and maintaining emergency plans to deal with Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, and Recovery for natural and man-made disasters.
To accomplish this the Wicomico County Emergency Management office has a wide array of responsibility. Members of the office sit on numerous committees to include the Delmarva Emergency Task Force, PRMC Disaster Committee, Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), Salisbury Mutual Assistance Group, US Coast Guard Area Contingency Planning Committee, ETC. The Wicomico County office also has a strong partnership with the Maryland Emergency Management Agency and the Maryland Emergency Management Association.
The office of Emergency Management is also responsible for administration and record keeping for the Hazardous Materials Regulatory Program authorized under the Federal Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act of 1986 (EPCRA) as a part of the LEPC.
Planning is a priority for the office, however not the only aspect of the department. The department is also tasked with emergency response to hazardous material incidents throughout the county. Both the Coordinator and Technician are certified Hazardous Materials Technicians.
Education is a big part and the Emergency Management Office is very involved in community training. This is being done through a program called Citizens Emergency Response Training (C.E.R.T).
If you or you business or group have a training request and think we can be of assistance please feel free to contact our office at 410-548-4820.
