I have always brushed off recycling like "who cares?" or "no one else does so why should I?" Or "it doesn't matter nor make a difference". I understand that half the recyclables are still thrown away because of improper separation and im sure it can be quite the burden on our budget as well. But there is no excuse for skimping on preserving the environment. As silly n as blunt as this may sounds...I now understand we should not "crap, poo, or sh** where we eat"...a concept I never cared for in the past. Please lead our community....our county, our state, and our country by example and provide better support and thus promotion of recycling! There is no excuse for a recycling drop off center to look like a dump. These are the people that care most about our children, our future, and our planet. Please support us!

We are relatively new residents, bought the house just before Covid, so we didn't move in till this fall. My first morning I was awoke by the sounds of TRUCKS (I kept count over 20 by 8AM), starting at 5:45! No, this is not on the 'Official' Dump road, just the one everyone uses. It IS a narrow, (no shoulders) residential, kids, elderly, & pets road. I asked everyone in the area why?? When we became members at the Legion I realized why, the Actual/Official dump road with a sign and non-residential; entrance and exit is onto Rt.50/Ocean Way which has a center island preventing left turns coming or going!! So the bulk of the traffic, particularly large dump trucks, go down into an already 'over burdened' 5 way intersection, to use Old Quantico Road.
I'm sure some members are aware of several news reports, local and national of dump trucks hitting and killing residence. We requested the 'knocked' down speed limit sign of 30 mph be put back up, it was, but is Totally ignored!

I believe that having a great community or even improving the community begins with belief or a people with the same mind set, I also believe that if we come together once a month to pray with our leaders, our creator will help us as a city and a people! I believe those who lead should also have listening ears and a caring heart for there lives as well. Who is there for the voices that are there for everyone else’s! We should establish a Team that will have the skill and compassion to help with prayer first! Unity begins with prayer and having one mindset, let’s improve by growing as one.

Most residents don't have the ability or inclination to recycle yard waste. On a small scale it can be very time consuming. If the county collected yard waste on a regular basis this would greatly reduce the solid waste entering the landfill. According to waste360.com, yard waste is the third largest component of solid waste in landfills. It is a wasted resource. The yard waste could be composted by the county and offered back to residents for mulch or soil enhancers. The compost would be free to residents.
A green trash can be utilized to collect yard waste. Each residence would be required to have a green trash can. If they filled the bin 6 times a year, then they would have use of the bin free of charge for the year. An efficient collection schedule could be devised to reduce costs. This would increase the community's awareness of our environment, promote the community as environmentally friendly, save us money, extend the life of the landfill, and improve the environment.

I would like to suggest that the Wicomico County Solid Waste Division supply plastic bags and tools for picking up roadside waste to any person or group that would volunteer to help clean up the waste tossed to the roadside. This should come together in some way to encourage community groups to pick or be assigned areas to work. The collected waste, tools, and any unused plastic bags were returned. The amount of waste collected would be weighed and posted for others to compete.
