The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development recently awarded Wicomico County a grant in the amount of $1,177,120 for COVID-19 Relief. With the adoption of Resolution No. 54-2020, the Wicomico County Council at their July 21st 2020 meeting authorized the County Executive to accept the award.
This grant will provide senior food assistance and emergency rental assistance to those in need in Wicomico County. The funds will be split by 3 sub-recipients, $177,120 to Maintaining Active Citizens, Inc. (MAC Inc.), and $500,000 each to both the Wicomico County Local Management Board and Habitat for Humanity Wicomico County. Management and oversight of this grant will be done by the Wicomico County Department of Planning, Zoning & Community Development.
The funds for the emergency rental assistance program are limited to residents of Wicomico County. Due to the City of Salisbury receiving their own rental assistance funds as an entitlement community, residents of the City of Salisbury are not eligible for this first round of rental assistance.
To be eligible for the rental assistance you must have lost your job or experienced a reduction in employment hours directly related to COVID-19. Applications will be accepted starting Monday, August 3rd.
