Dredging

In addition to the environmental, recreational and aesthetic benefits, our rivers provide valuable routes to transport critical resources and commercial products to and from the Lower Shore. These include items such as fuel, aggregates and agricultural products. The Engineering Division is responsible for overseeing the dredging program and has created a Strategic Dredging Plan to outline the methodology. The U.S. Corps of Engineers is charged with the actual dredging operations, but the County must provide sufficient dredge material placement sites. This Division coordinates the planning efforts, site selection, appraisal process, property acquisition, permitting, maintenance and reclamation. This Division also interfaces with the Delmarva Water Transport Committee which advocates for protection of these critical routes.
