Critical Area Resource Protection

The Chesapeake Bay Critical Area is all land within a 1000' boundary of tidal waters as established by the Maryland Critical Area Law. All development or disturbance within this area is regulated by Chapter 125 of the Wicomico County Code entitled Critical Area Resource Protection.

The purpose of the Critical Area Resource Protection Chapter is to establish the Critical Area District and to provide special regulatory protection for the land and water resources located within the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area in Wicomico County. Land use development standards and requirements established are intended to foster more sensitive development activity for shoreline areas and to minimize the adverse impacts of development activities on water quality and natural habitats.
