Announcements
Cannabis Discussion –
Over the past two months, the Planning and Zoning Commission has discussed newly enacted State Cannabis regulations. These discussions consisted of what Cannabis is and is not, State regulations and expectations, and potential locations for manufacturing, processing, and retail sales based on local zoning considerations. Click here to view the Cannabis presentation from August 24, 2023.
Zoning Restrictions –
Per State law, a local government has the difficult challenge of establishing zoning requirements for cannabis-related businesses without unduly burdening a licensee. That means a local government can’t outright prohibit cannabis operations other than on-site consumption establishments. The current proposal being considered by the Wicomico County Planning and Zoning Commission is restricting cannabis-related operations to occur in only the industrial zoned areas of the County, which consists of approximately 2,100 acres.
